Extracurriculars at I.S. 206

Learning at I.S. 206 extends beyond the classroom. Our extracurricular programs give students opportunities to explore their interests, develop leadership skills, and express themselves in new and creative ways. From academic clubs to arts and debate, these activities help students build confidence, form friendships, and become well-rounded members of our school community.

Debate Team

The I.S. 206 Debate Team gives students a platform to develop their voice, sharpen their critical thinking, and build confidence in public speaking. Through practice and competition, students learn to research, form strong arguments, and respectfully engage with different perspectives. Debate fosters leadership, teamwork, and academic growth while empowering students to make their voices heard.

STUDENT COUNCIL

The Student Council gives students a voice to make changes within their school community. We will work together to develop leadership skills, build relationships with the staff and students within the school, and develop school wide initiatives to build a school atmosphere based on what the students want.

CHESs

To build critical thinking within children, this can be accomplished by teaching strategy and understanding. Playing the game of Chess builds purpose, every move must come with a purpose to benefit every opportunity. Students can use the same practice in their everyday life, every move in life should come with a purpose to succeed in the future.

YOUTH COURT

Youth helps young people gain the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to serve on a youth court. Youth court practices will include: Restorative justice: respondents to take responsibility for their actions and repair harm caused by their behavior.

DANCE TEAM

Students will be part of the Spirit squad, performing at halftime of sporting events, as well as assemblies. Students are expected to hold themselves in high regard as they will be representing the student body. Students will also be expected to take care of their uniforms and poms as well as learn all the routines for their performances.

YEARBOOK COMMITTEE

Yearbook will allow the 5th grade students to take ownership of their own yearbook. They will be in charge of taking pictures of their peers and school wide events, planning the book from front cover to back cover, collecting photos and organizing them. They will be setting up the schedule to meet the deadlines.
